Kazakhstan: House Arrest Of Journalist Aigul Utepova Causes Impediment Of Her Work
Blogger and journalist Aigul Utepova who was arrested on September 17, was released on September 20 after being interrogated and was sentenced to house arrest. The journalist who has nominated herself for presidency back in 2015, was arrested for her posts on Facebook with charges of breach of Article 405/2 of Criminal Code and was facing upto two years imprisonment. (“Participation in the activities of a public or religious association or other organization, in respect of which there is a court decision that has entered into legal force banning their activities or liquidating them in connections with their implementation of extremism or terrorism.”)

United States: Laura Jedeed Was Tear-Gassed And Pushed To The Ground. CFWIJ Condemns The Violence Against The Journalist
Freelance journalist Laura Jedeed was tear-gassed and shoved to the ground while covering a protest. Laura was at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office (ICE) in Oregon to cover a demonstration on Friday, September 18. The protest outside the ICE facility was one of the several demonstrations held after the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The journalist was targeted with munitions and later pushed to the ground by federal security agents. CFWIJ condemns the violence and demands authorities end their unwarranted interference with journalists at work.
Germany: Rise Of Extreme Right Wing Is A Threat To Women Journalists In The Country
Menace towards journalists in Germany is on the rise with right-wing extremism taking the platform more publicly in the country. PEGIDA (anti-Islamist right-wing movement) has been attacking press since its formation in 2014. During their formation rally, German media were declared as part of the problem by the speakers, labeled as "lying press", which is a directly controlled organ of government, a compliant propaganda tool.
Mexico: Legal Harassment Of Journalist Carmen Olsen Continues With A Defamation Case
Carmen Olsen, a journalist in Baja California State who investigates acts of corruption committed by the police chief of Rosarito, a town located just 25 km from the U.S. border was harassed by municipal police officers as she tried to take pictures of an unlawful arrest in January 2013. Policemen bruised Carmen severely as they tried to drag her out of her car. She managed to stay in the car, but then policemen had it towed away, and paraded through the center of the city, while she was still in it. Carmen Olsen was detained for three hours, illegally, as there were no charges to arrest her on.
