Türkiye: Gazeteci Derya Okatan’ın Yargılandığı ‘Rredhack’ Davası On İkinci Kez Ertelendi – Gazeteciler Derhal Beraat Etmelidir
Berat Albayrak'a ait olduğu iddia edilen e-postaları haberleştiren, aralarında Derya Okatan’ın da bulunduğu altı gazetecinin yargılandığı davanın 12’nci duruşması bugün İstanbul’da görüldü. Mahkeme savcılığın dava dosyasının genişletilmesi talebini kabul ederek ve gazetecilerin adli kontrol şartının devamına hükmederek bir sonraki duruşmayı 9 Aralık 2021 tarihine erteledi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak uzun yıllardır haksız şekilde süren bu davada gazetecilerin beraatini talep ediyoruz. Gazetecilik suç değildir.
Turkey: 'redhack' Trial Against Journalist Derya Okatan Postponed For The Twelfth Time – Journalists Must Be Acquitted Immediately
The 12th hearing of the trial against six journalists, including Derya Okatan, who reported on emails allegedly belonging to former minister Berat Albayrak, was held today in Istanbul. The court adjourned the next hearing to December 9, 2021, accepting the prosecutor's request for the extension of the case file and ruling on the continuation of the journalists' travel ban. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands an immediate acquittal of the journalists that have been unjustly postponing for many years. Journalism is not a crime.
Canada: Social Media Platform, Facebook, Censors Ukrainian Journalist, Ustia Stefanchuk. CFWIJ Registers Protest.
Ukrainian journalist, Ustia Stefanchuk, who is now based in Canada recently published a historical testimony, on her Facebook page, about the torture her ancestors were subjected to at the hands of Soviet forces in 1941. Her Facebook page was abruptly taken down after she published her post without any prior warning or notification. Although the page was restored later, the company offered Ustia no explanation regarding which community standard she was in violation of, or what caused her work to be reinstated.

Gazeteci yazar Sedef Kabaş ve 38 kişinin “ekonomiye zarar vermek” suçlamasıyla yargılandığı davanın altın duruşması bugün hakimin izinli olması gerekçesiyle altıncı kez ileri bir tarihe ertelendi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak bahaneler öne sürülerek sürekli ertelenen davaları kınıyoruz. Türk yetkililere gazeteciliğin suç olmadığını tekrar hatırlatarak, yargılanan gazetecilerin beraatını talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Sedef Kabaş's Trial Adjourned For The Sixth Time – Journalist Must Be Acquitted Immediately
The fifth hearing of the trial against journalist Sedef Kabaş and 38 people on charges of "damaging the economy" was postponed for the sixth time today, due to the judge’s leave. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) denounces the constant postponement of the trials against journalists. We urge Turkish authorities that journalism is not a crime, we demand Sedef Kabaş’s and other journalists’ acquittal immediately.
Georgia: 54 Media Workers, Including 14 Women Journalists, Attacked By Far-right Anti-LGBTQ Group. CFWIJ Registers Its Protest And Demands Investigation.
54 media workers were physically assaulted by a far-right anti-LGBTQ group in the Georgian capital. The news crew belonged to 16 different media companies and at least 14 women journalists were among those attacked. The event serves as an alarming reminder of the politics of hate that is fast becoming popular around the world where democratic principles are constantly under attack. Not only was this a vicious assault on the principles of free press but also an indication of the severe dangers that sexual minorities face in the country.
United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Attack On Journalist Jennifer Joas And Her Crew
Jennifer Joas, a correspondent for NBC Connecticut, and her cameraman were attacked by an unidentified woman. Jennifer was in the parking lot of the Hartford police department to record a segment on the recent rise in violence in the area. The attacker reportedly walked up to the journalist unprovoked and started smashing the recording camera. Fortunately, Joas and her cameraman stayed in their vehicle and were not injured during the attack. They managed to record the incident before driving off. CFWIJ condemns the attack on Jennifer and her crew. We demand the police to investigate and apprehend the assailant.
India: Journalist Booked For Supporting Victim Of Harassment. CFWIJ Is Extremely Concerned About The Communal Bias In India Police Systems.
A first information report (FIR) was registered against journalist Nidhi Suresh in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur area, following the publication of her report that detailed the harassment a woman civilian faced after her conversion from Hinduism to Islam. According to Suresh’s report, a woman who now recognizes herself as Ayesha Alvi received threatening calls after her religious conversion. The number was registered in the name of a news reporter Deep Srivatsava. In response, Srivastava filed a defamation case against the journalist, denying the allegations.

Gazeteci Melis Alphan'ın beraat ettiği davada İstanbul Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı karara itiraz ederek İstinaf Mahkemesi’ne başvurdu. Dava dosyasının tekrar açılıp açılmayacağı 13 Temmuz 2021 tarihine kadar belli olacak. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak Türk yetkililerden üst mahkemenin adil karar vermesini ve dava dosyasını tamamen kapanmasını talep ediyoruz. Melis Alphan gazetecidir. Turkey: Prosecutor Appealed Journalist Melis Alphan’s Acquittal And Brought It To The Higher Court
The prosecutor appealed the acquittal of journalist Melis Alphan. The case is scheduled to reopen in the Turkish Supreme Court. The decision will be determined by July 13, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) demands the Turkish authorities to rule a fair decision and dismiss the case file completely. Melis Alphan is a journalist and journalism is not a crime.
Russia: CFWIJ Condemns Police Raid And Interrogation Against Journalist Maria Zholobova
Moscow police raided the apartments of three journalists, including reporter Maria Zholobova of the independent news organization Proekt, and interrogated them. Police confiscated phones, computers, flash drives and SIM cards from Maria. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) denounces state intimidation against journalists. We demand Russian authorities to end these intimidating policies against journalists and return their equipment.
Panama: CFWIJ Demands Swift Investigation Into The Death Threats Journalist Flor Mizrachi Faces
La Prensa reporter and ECO TV presenter Flor Mizrachi faced death threats following her news coverage about corruption in Panama’s COVID-19 vaccination process. The journalist received phone calls after publishing her two reports of irregular vaccination. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) is utterly dismayed by the vicious threats Flor faced. We call Panamanian authorities to conduct a swift investigation into the incident and identify the suspects. We demand security officials to ensure the safety of journalist’s safety.
Belarus: CFWIJ Demands Authorities To Release Journalist Yulia Chernyavskaya From House Arrest
A former Tut.By employee and writer, Yulia Chernyavskaya is suffering serious health problems under house arrest. Yulia’s defense is now asking for leniency in her punishment to at least allow her hospital visits. Her counsel is ready to give a personal guarantee that she will not leave her home under any other circumstances. Yulia was put under house arrest more than two months ago.

Gazeteci Derya Okatan’ın “hakaret” suçlamasıyla yargılandığı davanın altıncı duruşması bugün İstanbul’da görüldü. Esas hakkında mütalaasını sunan dava savcısı, Okatan’ın yayınladığı haberin ‘basın özgürlüğü’ kapsamına girdiğini belirterek gazetecinin beraatını talep etti. Bir sonraki duruşma 16 Aralık’ta görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak savcılık talebini memnuniyetle karşılıyor, mahkeme heyetinin talep doğrultusunda Okatan hakkında beraat karar vermesini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: CFWIJ Welcomes Prosecutor's Request For Journalist Derya Okatan’s Acquittal
The sixth hearing of the trial against journalist Derya Okatan for the "insult" charges was held today in İstanbul. The prosecution in the trial requested Derya’s acquittal today on accounts of press freedom. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) welcomes the development and calls the Turkish judiciary to set this request as precedent for the trials of other journalists. We demand the court acquit the journalist upon request.
