Turkey: CFWIJ Condemns Prison Sentence Against Journalist Hikmet Tunç – Journalism Is Not A Crime
Jin News reporter Hikmet Tunç was sentenced to eight months and 22 days in prison as a result of the trial against her over her coverage. She was penalized for insulting Harun Yücel, the trustee appointed to Muradiye Municipality. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the court's verdict. We reiterate once again, journalism is not a crime.
Belarus: CFWIJ Condemns The Detention Of Journalist Carola Schneider
Carola Schneider, a correspondent for Austria's national broadcaster, was detained by the police along with her cameraman. The incident took place in Minsk on August 9. Police brought the pair to the station, though both Carola and her cameraman were released after some time. The CFWIJ condemns the ongoing crackdown against journalists and media organizations in the country. Violations and threats against women journalists working for the free press have become a routine pattern. CFWIJ calls on President Lukashenko's government to end the harassment of women journalists.

Bangladesh: CFWIJ Condemns The Persistent Harassment Of Rozina Islam By State Authorities
Rozina Islam, a senior correspondent for Daily Prothom Alo, is facing challenges as the state authorities continue to target her. According to the latest reports, the Financial Intelligence Unit has asked all banks to submit Rozina’s account details, even if she is listed as a beneficiary. Through its sources, CFWIJ confirmed that Rozina still does not have her passport, Press Information Department (PID) card, or mobile phone. We demand state authorities immediately return the confiscated belongings to the journalist. CFWIJ believes the state is targeting Rozina for her relentless efforts to expose corruption in the health sector.

Journalists Büşra Taşkıran and Seda Taşkın were barred with the police force driving them away from covering the racist events against refugees in Ankara. Journalists were covering the loot against many refugees and Syrians in the city. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the police violence against journalists. We call on the security forces to maintain order across the country, violating the journalists' right to report instead. Journalism is a public duty. These practices are unacceptable.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) congratulates Evrim for achieving exemplary journalism and stands in solidarity with her. We demand the Turkish authorities impose criminal sanctions instead of releasing the abusive person.
Mexico: CFWIJ Condemns The Threats Against Journalist Azucena Uresti By The Local Drug Cartel
Azucena Uresti, a broadcast journalist associated with the Radio Formula and Multimedios, was threatened in a video message from a drug cartel group. She is one the best-known TV hosts, who presents Milenio TV's nightly news program. Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) threatened other media outlets that cover the Michoacan region, where the cartel often disputes and engages with other armed groups. In the video message, Azucena Uresti was named and threatened directly.
Azerbaijan: CFWIJ Condemns That Abuse And Threats Faced By Three Women Journalists At The Hands Of The Police
Ulviyya Ali, Nargis Absalamova, and Elnare Gasimova were verbally abused and physically assaulted by the police despite identifying themselves as journalists. The journalists were attacked while covering a protest against the murder of 24-year-old Sevinj Maharramova. Maharramova was allegedly murdered by her husband leading to protests regarding the persecution of women in the country.

Turkey: Journalist Sarya Toprak's Was Obstructed From Reporting The Affectees Of Wildfire, By The Minister Of Environment. CFWIJ Condemns This Impediment By The Authorities.
BirGün Newspaper reporter Sarya Toprak was impeded by the ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The reporter was filming areas and citizens affected by the recent wildfire but was prevented from doing so by the minister. The journalist was then forcibly removed from the area by the police force. This directly impedes her ability to report.
Greece: CFWIJ Is Appalled By The Physical Assault Of Journalist Eleftheria Spyraki
Eleftheria Spyraki, a correspondent associated with OPEN TV, was attacked and physically assaulted by miscreants in Thrakomakedones. The incident was reported around 2 a.m. late Saturday night as the crew was reporting a fire from the frontlines. Eleftheria narrated the attack live on an audio call, her voice cracking with fear as she described the details of what was happening.
United States-Iran: CFWIJ Stands In Solidarity With Farnaz Fasihi Who Was Targeted Through Vicious Online Trolling
Journalist Farnaz Fasihi has been on the receiving end of deeply gendered and misogynistic online attacks by Iranian trolls for over several months. Fasihi covers Iran for The New York Times and the nature of her work has made her extremely vulnerable to digital harassment. In response, The New York Times published a statement reasserting their support for their journalist, while Fasihi’s colleagues also came out in solidarity with her.
