Türkiye’de yangın bölgelerinde haber takibi yapan gazeteciler Dilek Gül ve Gülşah İnce jandarma ekipleri tarafından akreditasyon engeliyle karşı karşıya kaldı. Yangın bölgelerinde haber yapmak isteyen gazetecilere gerekçe olarak kararın yüksek makamlardan verildiği açıklandı. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak basını susturmaya yönelik bu girişimi kınıyoruz. Gazeteciler ayrım gözetmeksizin mesleklerini her koşulda yapabilmelidir.

Afghanistan: CFWIJ Is Concerned For The Safety Of Storay Karimi And Somaia Valizadeh

Storay Karimi, the only war correspondent associated with Pajhwok Afghan News, had to leave her home this week after she received death threats from extremists. Storay was reporting from the western city of Herat before heading to Kabul. Another woman journalist, Somaia Valizadeh, also expressed her concerns over the control of extremist elements. Somaia voiced that women journalists will have to leave their jobs and livelihood if the Taliban takes Herat.

Belarus: CFWIJ Condemns The Travel Restriction Imposed On Inessa Studzinskaya By State Authorities

Journalist Inessa Studzinskaya, affiliated with Radio Svaboda, was restricted from leaving the country. Inessa discovered the travel ban against her after finding her name on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website. The radio journalist, along with two of her colleagues, was detained on July 26. According to reports, the authorities searched their homes and destroyed the network’s editorial offices in Minsk. CFWIJ condemns the persistent impediments to press freedom in the country. We have repeatedly demanded action to ensure a safe and fair environment for women journalists in Belarus.

Belarus: CFWIJ Condemns The Detention Of Blogger Nasta Pilyugina

Nasta Pilyugina, a blogger and host of the "dzigital" podcast, was detained in Minsk on the morning of July 29. She left her home around 11 a.m. and was carrying her laptop in her car. Sometime after her departure, she was presumably apprehended. The authorities searched her residence but shared no information regarding her location or where she was detained. CFWIJ condemns the unjustified detention of the blogger and demands the police release her. We continue to monitor the persecution of women journalists in Belarus.

The police did not intervene in the group that attacked the journalists. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns this heinous attack on journalists. We demand the security forces that implement the necessary criminal sanctions, protecting the perpetrators instead. Journalists should do their job in safe environments. Journalist Büşra Taşkıran was physically assaulted with police force while following the women’s protest for Azra Gülendam Haytaoğlu, 21, and Emine Gökkız, 45, who were brutally murdered. The journalist was deliberately impeded from filming the event and beaten by the police. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the escalating police violence across Turkey. We call the Turkish state to end intimidating journalists by using forges against them. Journalists should freely do their job. The opposite approach is a violation of press freedom.

Journalist Francesca Scognamiglio Petino received a death threat on her Facebook profile after she shared the government’s notification regarding the Green Pass. The Green Pass is a COVID-19 safety measure restricting movement of the unvaccinated citizens in order to curb the spread of the disease. The institution of the Green Pass has received severe backlash from right-wing political parties in the country, resulting in several journalists feeling unsafe and vulnerable to threats and attacks by supporters of these groups.
