United States: CFWIJ Mourns With Loved Ones Of Jasmine Waters

The Coalition For Women In Journalism is saddened by the news of the death of 39 years old journalist and screenwriter Jasmine Waters (Jas Fly) on June 10th.
American screenwriter and journalist is known for writing 18 episodes of the TV series This Is Us.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that Waters took her own life.
Jasmine Waters grew up in Evanston, Illinois. Early in her career, she worked as a columnist for Vibe and appeared on the VH1 reality series The Gossip Game. As she entered the television world, Waters landed jobs on VH1’s hip-hop series The Breaks and Comedy Central’s Hood Adjacent With James Davis.
Her most recent job was as a story editor for Jim Carrey’s Showtime series Kidding.
Kidding showrunner Dave Holstein spoke to Los Angeles Times about Waters: “One of my favorite lines of hers is resonating especially loud with me today: Our scars do not mean we are broken. They are proof we are healed.”

The CFWIJ strongly condemns the police brutality against journalists. We demand the immediate return of the press cards seized from the security forces. Policies to intimidate journalists should be abandoned, and journalism should be practiced under the criteria of freedom of the press.
