It was around noon on Wednesday morning in Iran, when one of our sources informed the CFWIJ that another female journalist in Abadan had been arrested.

We are extremely disturbed by the growing violence against women journalists in Iran, who are one of the primary target of arrests and detentions.

Iran has wrestled with waves of protests after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained and beaten by the so-called “morality police” for violating the country's hijab law on September 16, 2022.

Vida Rabbani, a journalist for Seda Magazine, was released from Evin Prison on bail. Vida was arrested by security forces on December 23rd, 2020, and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Center, Ward 209, of Evin Prison. The Coalition For Women In Journalism welcomes the journalist’s release. We urge Iranian authorities to end their arbitrary and unfair practices against journalists and demand justice for those who remain imprisoned.
