Conservative YouTube personality Steven Crowder targeted KPIX 5 reporter Betty Yu in a video published on Wednesday. The episode began as a commentary on Betty's report on a dispute between city health officials and a restaurant chain regarding COVID protocols, however quickly devolved into deeply racist comments about the journalist herself. The video has rightfully received widespread condemnation from Betty's colleagues and employers alike.
Palestine: CFWIJ Condemns The Physical Assault And Racial Abuse Faced By Journalist Nisreen Salem
Journalist Nisreen Salem was physically assaulted and racially abused by officers of the Israel Defense Force while at a check post. In a video published by a local news platform, Nisreen recounts the violence she faced at the hands of the officials. The overreaches by the Israeli armed forces has received global attention and condemnation recently, and the recent attack appears to be an addition to the patterns of state violence Israel has routinely exhibited towards Palestinian citizens.

As an organized hate campaign against women journalists of color continues, journalist Farah Nasser, a news presenter for Global News, highlighted that most racist and hateful acts go unreported and are never taken to court. Farah shared video proof on Twitter incriminating Calgary mayoral candidate Kevin J. Johnston, who verbally harassed her with deeply racist speech a year ago.
Canada: Two More Women Journalists of Color Targeted as Deeply Racist, Organised Hate Campaign Escalates
The widespread hate campaign against journalists of color escalated on Monday with two more women journalists receiving threatening and abusive emails. At least 17 journalists were targeted after right-wing politician Maxime Bernier tweeted a provocative message inciting his supporters. Freelance sports journalist Shireen Ahmed and CBC host Angela Sterritt were the latest targets of the ongoing hate campaign, weaponized racist and misogynistic language to threaten, intimidate and silence journalists of color. Maxime’s tweet has since been deleted but the organised campaign against journalists has continued unabated, with many of the vile emails sent from the same email account.

Journalists Büşra Taşkıran and Seda Taşkın were barred with the police force driving them away from covering the racist events against refugees in Ankara. Journalists were covering the loot against many refugees and Syrians in the city. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the police violence against journalists. We call on the security forces to maintain order across the country, violating the journalists' right to report instead. Journalism is a public duty. These practices are unacceptable.

Journalists were subjected to racist attacks and hate speech on social media. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the outrageous attacks on journalists. Canada: Journalist Nahreman Issa Targeted With Racist Hate Comments On Social Media. CFWIJ Condemns The Incident.
A Facebook user who goes by the name Jameson Balkie messaged journalist Nahreman Issa through the platform, attacking her expertise and professionalism by targeting her race. The vile message also attempted to body-shame the journalist. In response, Nahreman claimed that she is not opposed to taking constructive criticism from her readers, however, any critique that serves to espouse racist and fatphobic worldviews should not be tolerated.
