United Kingdom: Journalist Geri Scott Targeted By Online Attacks After Her Television Appearance
Geri Scott, the Yorkshire Post’s Westminster correspondent, was targeted by online harassment when she appeared on the Andrew Marr Show TV programme on BBC One. The Coalition For Women In Journalism denounces these vicious attacks against Geri. We urge British authorities to identify the attackers and ensure the safety of journalists.
Poland: Gazeta Wyborcza Reporter Angelika Pitoń Faces Two Criminal Charges For Covering The Women's March
On November 17, 2020, two criminal charges were filed against Gazeta Wyborcza reporter Angelika Pitoń. The charges stem from a demonstration in the southern town of Zakopane on November 6, as part of the nationwide Women's March. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns these infringements against journalists and demands Polish authorities to end the intimidation of the press.
Uganda: In The Lead Up To Elections, Canadian Reporters Deported, Despite Holding Valid Press Credentials
The CBC News team including two women journalists were deported this weekend despite valid press credential and complying with the protocols set for foreign journalists working from Uganda. The Coalition For Women In Journalism finds this unexpected deportation, an attack on press freedom. We urge authorities to prevent such obstructions to reporters in the lead up to elections.
Saudi Arabia: CFWIJ Calls On Saudi Judicial Authorities To Release Nouf Abdulaziz
Writer and activist Nouf Abdulaziz was arrested on June 6, 2018, during a raid on her residence in Riyadh. Nouf was always vocal about women’s issues and the human rights violations committed by Saudi authorities. Despite facing pressure from the authorities, Nouf wrote fearlessly on the unlawful arrests prevalent throughout the kingdom. She was arrested during the crackdown against activists and journalists that began in May 2018. Nouf’s health has reportedly deteriorated after the brutal physical torture she suffered in prison.

Haziran 2019’da, Şahinbey Belediyesindeki yolsuzluğu "Şahinbey'de ihale oyunu" başlıklı haberiyle ortaya çıkaran Cumhuriyet Gazetesi yazarı Hazal Ocak’a 20 bin TL manevi tazminat talebiyle dava açıldı. Davanın ikinci duruşması da ilki gibi taraf avukatlarının mazeret bildirmesi nedeniyle ertelendi. Davanın üçüncü duruşması 3 Mart 2021’de görülecek.
Turkey: Second Hearing Of The Case Against Journalist Hazal Ocak Has Been Postponed To Next Year.
In June 2019, Cumhuriyet Newspaper writer Hazal Ocak was sued for 20 thousand TF in financial compensation. The lawsuit followed her article titled ‘Tender Game in Şahinbey’ that exposed the corruption in Şahinbey Borough Council. The second hearing of the case was postponed, due to the absence of both the prosecution and defence lawyers. The third hearing of the case will be held on March 3, 2021.

Mezopotamya Ajansı (MA) muhabiri Dindar Karataş’ın gözaltına alınmasının ardından, ajansın Van Bürosu’na ikinci kez polis baskını düzenlendi. Arama sırasında büroda yedi kadın gazeteci bulunuyordu. Polis, ofisteki üç bilgisayar ve hard disklere el koydu. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak düzenlenen bu saldırıyı kınıyor, gazetecilerin ekipmanlarının derhal teslim edilmesini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: Police Raid The Mesopotamia Agency Office In Van For A Second Time
After arresting Mesopotamia Agency correspondent Dindar Karataş, the police raided the agency's Van office for a second time. During the search, seven female journalists were also at the scene. The police seized three computers and a few hard drives in the office. The Coalition For Women In Journalism condemns this unwarranted intrusion on the journalists and demands the office’s equipment be returned immediately.

Egypt: A Year Of Arbitrary Pre-Trial Detention For Journalist Solafa Magdy And Her Husband Hussam El Sayed.
Journalist Solafa Magdy and her husband, photojournalist Hussam El Sayed, have spent a year in prison while their son grows up without his parents. The Coalition For Women In Journalism calls upon the Egyptian authorities to show mercy and release the journalists to reunite with their six-year-old son.
Türkiye: Gazeteci Kibriye Evren’in Duruşması Tanık İfadelerinin İstenmesi Nedeniyle 2021’ye Ertelendi
Jinnews muhabiri Kibriye Evren’in, gazetecilik faaliyetleri ve sosyal medya paylaşımları sebebiyle yargılandığı davanın 11’inci duruşması dün Diyarbakır 5. Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi’nde görüldü. Mahkeme, Evren hakkında Mersin'de açılan bir başka davanın iddianamesinin istenmesi için ilgili mahkemeye yazı yazılmasına ve Antalya ile Ağrı'daki tanıkların ifadelerinin alınmasına karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 9 Mart 2021 tarihinde görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak Evren’in beraatini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: The 11th Hearing Of The Case Against Journalist Kibriye Evren Was Postponed To 2021 Due To Requests For Witness Testimonies
The 11th hearing of the trial against Jinnews reporter Kibriye Evren was held yesterday at Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court. The court requested a sample of the indictment and the statements made towards the journalist in various investigations. The next hearing will be held on March 9, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism demands Kibriye’s immediate acquittal.

Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham allowed the Aleppo Media Coalition to interview Nour Al-Shalo. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) remains concerned about Nour’s safety and calls for her immediate release.
