In a finalized settlement, the Dutch state will pay damages to journalist and CFWIJ fellow Ans Boersma. Ans was unjustifiably deported from Turkey on January 17, 2019, after Dutch intelligence reportedly shared information with Turkish authorities alleging the journalist had links to a terrorist organization. Ans was working as an economy editor for Het Financieele Dagblad when police raided her home on January 16, 2019.

Ans Boersma’nın sınır dışı edilmesinin ardından gazeteci aleyhindeki davanın ilk duruşması dün İstanbul Birinci İdare Mahkemesi'nde yapıldı.

The first hearing of Ans Boersma’s wrongful deportation case took place yesterday at The Istanbul First Administrative Court.

Davanın profesyonel olmayan ve pervasız bir şekilde ele alınması, Hollanda basınının acele ve yanlış bilgilendirilmesi ile birleştiğinde, masum olduğunu düşündüğümüz bir kadın gazetecinin adil yargılanmasına engel oldu.

The unprofessional and reckless handling of the case, combined with the rushed and misinformed covering by Dutch press, has risked a fair and just trial of a woman journalist, whom we deem innocent.

We condemn the detention and deportation of Dutch journalist Johanna Cornelia Boersma, who also goes by Ans Boersma.
