United States: CFWIJ Supports The Request To Investigate The Officers Behind Andrea Sahouri’s Arrest

Following the acquittal of their journalist, Andrea Sahouri, the Des Moines Register has requested that the officers who arrested Andrea be investigated. Reportedly, Andrea was pepper-sprayed and apprehended despite clarifying that she was a journalist several times. Andrea was arrested at a demonstration for the Black Lives Matter movement.

United States: CFWIJ Welcomes Andrea Sahouri’s Acquittal

Andrea Sahouri was acquitted today after standing trial for covering a Black Lives Matter demonstration in May 2020. At the time of arrest, and during court proceedings Sahouri claimed that she was physically assaulted and arrested by the police, despite clarifying multiple times that she was a journalist. Sahouri’s release was much welcomed by the international community.

United States: CFWIJ Demands Dismissal Of The Relentless Trial Against Journalist Andrea Sahouri

The charge against Des Moines Register journalist Andrea Sahouri, who was arrested while covering the Black Lives Matters (BLM) protests, has surfaced. The journalist will appear in court on March 8 International Women’s Day, over the charges of “failure to disperse ”and“ interference with official acts.” If convicted, Andrea will face a fine or 30 days' imprisonment, or both penalty. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) condemns the arrest and the trial against the journalist solely doing her job. We demand the trial be dismissed immediately.

United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Arrest Of Andrea Sahouri And The Police Brutality She Had To Face In The Process.

Andrea Sahouri was arrested ìn May 2020 while covering a Black Lives Matter protest. Police officials physically assaulted her during the process, even though she was perfectly cooperative during the process. Despite her employer publication registering a protest, and terming this repression of the press, the charges against her have not been culled.
