Turkey: Ruken Demir Acquitted In Terror Case Based On Her Coverage Of Hunger Strikes In Prisons
A court in İzmir acquitted Mesopotamia Agency reporter Ruken Demir in a terror-related case.

Gazeteci Ruken Demir'in haber kaynaklarıyla yaptığı görüşmeler nedeniyle “örgüt üyeliği” suçlamasıyla yargılandığı davanın beşinci duruşması İzmir’de görüldü. Mahkeme Demir hakkındaki yurtdışı yasağı ile adli kontrolünün kaldırılmasına hükmederken, gazetecinin sosyal medya hesaplarına dair yapılan siber araştırma rapor sonucunun da beklenmesine karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 8 Haziran’da görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak bir kez daha gazeteciliğin suç olmadığını yetkililere hatırlatmak istiyoruz. Gazeteci Ruken Demir’in beraatini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Turkey To End Legal Persecution Against Journalists Immediately
The fifth hearing of the trial against journalist Ruken Demir was held today in İzmir. The court lifted the journalist’s travel ban however, the trial was adjourned once again requesting to examine Ruken’s social media accounts. The next hearing will be held on June 8. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reiterates once again that journalism is not a crime. We urge the authorities to end legal persecution against journalists and demand Ruken Demir’s immediate acquittal.

Jinnews muhabiri Melike Aydın’ın “örgüt üyeliği” suçlamasıyla yargılandığı davanın üçüncü duruşması bugün İzmir’de görüldü. Mahkemede savcı, iddianamede sunulan delillerin araştırılmasını ve gizli tanıkların dinlenmesini talep etti. Mahkeme duruşmayı 8 Haziran 2021 tarihine erteledi.
Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Jinnews Reporter Melike Aydin’s Acquittal Immediately
The third hearing of the trial against Jin news reporter Melike Aydın was held in Izmir today. Melike faces charges of "being a member of a terrorist organization". The prosecutor requested from the court that the evidence against Melike must be investigated and the secret witnesses heard. The court postponed the next hearing to June 8, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reiterates that journalism is not a crime. We demand Melike and all other journalists, who are on trial, must be acquitted immediately.

Gazeteci Ruken Demir'in haber kaynaklarıyla yaptığı görüşmeler nedeniyle “örgüt üyeliği” suçlamasıyla yargılandığı davanın dördüncü duruşması, mahkemenin dijital materyallerin incelenmesi kararını vermesi sonucu dava ertelendi. Bir sonraki duruşma 23 Şubat’ta görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu olarak bir kez daha gazeteciliğin suç olmadığını yetkililere hatırlatmak istiyoruz. Gazeteci Ruken Demir’in beraatini talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Journalist Ruken Demir’s Immediate Acquittal
The fourth hearing of the trial against journalist Ruken Demir was held yesterday in İzmir. The journalist was charged with being affiliated with an illegal organization due to her interviews. The court adjourned the trial after requesting to examine the digital materials. The next hearing will be held on 23 February. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) reiterates the authorities once again that journalism is not a crime. We demand Ruken Demir’s immediate acquittal.
