Location: Nigeria
Date: May 14, 2020

In a statement issued on May 14th, NWAOJ expressed concern over rape cases in Bayelsa State including sexual assault of minors.

Chairperson Maria Olodi-Osumah condemned the acts and called on relevant government agencies to take necessary steps.

“NAWOJ will not hesitate to take appropriate actions against persons found wanting irrespective of political, religious affiliations, ethnic or social status.” said Osumah regarding the issue.

CFWIJ condemns acts of sexual violence and highlights the importance of reporting such to relevant authorities without hesitation.

The CFWIJ strongly condemns the police brutality against journalists. We demand the immediate return of the press cards seized from the security forces. Policies to intimidate journalists should be abandoned, and journalism should be practiced under the criteria of freedom of the press.
