Journalist Safinaz Al-Louh was seriously injured a week ago in a car accident in Gaza. Hospitals in Gaza are not equipped to deal with such serious injuries so Safinaz attempted to cross the checkpoint several times to get medical care in occupied territories. She was sent back from the bridge two times due to a lack of security clearance. Safinaz was only allowed today to cross the checkpoint and receive medical help following several petitions calling for her receiving proper medical treatment. She is now in Al-Makased hospital in the occupied territories.
Safinaz and her mother were injured in a car accident last week in Gaza. While her mother died in the accident Safinaz sustained severe injuries. Doctors in the Gaza hospital referred her to another hospital in the occupied territories which required her to cross the checkpoint however Israeli security officers sent her back while she was on the verge of death according to her doctors.
Journalists in Gaza launched a petition calling upon Israeli authorities to allow her to receive medical care in the occupied territories. Safinaz’s brother also issued an appeal for Israeli authorities to save his sister’s life.
Safinaz is a journalist and reporter at Nahar news TV and Amad Media news website covering a wide spectrum of issues.
CFWIJ welcomes the decision of Israeli authorities to allow Safinaz to receive the medical help she needed in the occupied territories and calls upon them to review their policies at the checkpoints to avoid obstinacy in such life-threatening cases.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism closely monitors the incidents in Turkey with great concern. Since March 8, Women's Day, police violence against women journalists increasingly continues in the country. As the coalition, we urge the Turkish state to provide a free environment for journalists. Following the news is our most fundamental democratic right to report. We demand the immediate release of our detained colleagues. Journalism is not a crime. Journalism cannot be prevented.
