ECPMF ReCover Conference
🗓️ November 24-26, 2023
📍Poland, Krakow
Overview:
The conference brought Ukrainian journalists from all regions to Poland, to discuss challenges they are facing while trying to report during war. The goal was to connect these journalists with opportunities to share their experience, inform them of financial support, tech support etc that ECPMF provides. Politically, the motivation was to show clear EU support for Ukraine in war efforts. The conference was organized with the support of the German government, all speakers, especially non-Ukrainian were keen to publicly express their support for Ukraine, acknowledging the decrease in media coverage and waning public interest in the war among European citizens. Many discussions and comments delved into how to keep international media’s attention, to keep reporting on Ukraine.
Panel featuring CFWIJ: Gender Disinformation Targeting Women Journalists - Represented by Máire Rowland
During this panel, the results of the research conducted by the NGO "Women in Media," which unites women journalists in Ukraine, was presented. The findings relate to gender disinformation – a form of online violence involving the dissemination of false or deceptive gender and sexual narratives with a certain degree of coordination, aimed at preventing women's participation in the public sphere, including silencing their voices. When it comes to women journalists, this could entail them refraining from conducting their investigations.
