International Press Freedom Day 2020
The Coalition’s Press Freedom Day Campaign 2020 looked at the challenges that women journalists are facing around the world every day. First quarter of 2020 hasn’t been easy for women journalists. We documented almost 150 threats and intimidations between January and April alone, including deportations, imprisonments and deaths. More and more women journalists were also arrested, faced legal persecution, verbally harassed, abused and threatened online, as well as physically harassed, attacked and assaulted while working in precarious conditions.
Press Freedom & Women Journalists
Press Freedom has never been more under fire than in current times. These are dire times for journalists who take huge risks to deliver news and stories that matter. However, the situation is harder for women journalists. While the risks are aplenty, women journalists continue to do their jobs to deliver stories that often they have sole access to because of their gender. This is especially true for conservative countries. Our Campaigns looks to highlight the conditions that women journos face because of their profession.
