Women Press Freedom celebrates the release of Palestinian journalists Bushra Al-Taweel and Rula Hassanein as part of the first phase of the Hamas-Israel ceasefire deal.

The two journalists, detained since March 2024, were greeted by a jubilant crowd in Ramallah, alongside 88 other Palestinians prisoners.

We celebrate their reunion with loved ones, but it’s important to note they should never have been detained in the first place. Israeli authorities must stop targeting journalists and allow the press to carry out its essential work. Journalism is not a crime.
