Women Press Freedom stands in solidarity with Rachel Yonkunas, an Emmy-winning investigative reporter, who is suing News12 Long Island for gender-based discrimination after being unfairly sidelined and fired.

Rachel alleges her dismissal was retaliation for pointing out significant disparities in the treatment of men and women reporters at the network. No journalist should face marginalization based on gender, especially when advocating for fairness in the newsroom.

We fully support Rachel in her pursuit of justice and commend her for taking action. Media companies must ensure an equitable work environment, where all journalists—regardless of gender—have access to the same resources and opportunities to succeed.
