Journalist Victoria Dmytrenko faced a violent attack while reporting on a murder trial at a Kyiv court. A woman, a relative of the suspect, slapped Dmytrenko, grabbed her phone, and threw it to the ground, damaging the screen. My Ukraina, Dmytrenko’s employer, published video evidence of the attack.

The reporter filed a police complaint for assault and obstruction of her work, but authorities have not yet confirmed any action against the attacker.

Women Press Freedom condemns this violence against Dmytrenko who was simply trying to do her job. We call on Ukrainian authorities to open an immediate investigation into the attack and hold the perpetrator to account.
