Ukraine: Ksyusha Savoskina and Colleague Narrowly Escape Russian Drone Strike
November 25, 2024 - Ukraine, Kharkiv
Russian drones targeted Hromadske journalists Ksyusha Savoskina and Oleksiy Nikulin while they reported on an animal evacuation in Kupiansk.
Their car, carrying filming equipment, was destroyed in an explosion. Forced to walk 3km under drone threats, they narrowly escaped injury.
Targeting journalists in conflict zones is a war crime. This year alone, 8 women journalists have been injured by Russian shelling or drone strikes in Ukraine.
Women Press Freedom firmly condemns Russia's continued attacks on press workers. While we are relieved the Hromadske team escaped safely, we remain deeply concerned for the safety of journalists covering the war.
We urge the International Criminal Court to investigate this incident and call on the international community to hold Russia accountable.
