Ukraine: Journalist Tetyana Kulyk Killed in Russian Drone Strike

February 26, 2025 - Ukraine, Kyiv

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns Russia for the killing of Ukrainian journalist Tetyana Kulyk in a drone strike. She is the 10th woman journalist murdered by Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago.

A Russian Shahed drone struck Kulyk’s home in Kriukivshchyna, Kyiv region, on Feb 26. She and her husband, Pavlo Ivanchov, a surgeon and professor, were killed in the attack.

Kulyk was editor-in-chief of the multimedia editorial department of state news agency Ukrinform. She hosted “Nation of the Invincible,” a program highlighting Ukraine’s struggle and resilience.

At least 17 journalists have been killed in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Kulyk’s killing is not an isolated tragedy—it is part of Russia’s ongoing assault on journalists and civilians. The deliberate targeting of civilians, including journalists, is a gross violation of international law. The world cannot stay silent.

We demand an end to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Impunity must not prevail—those responsible for these crimes must be held accountable. Our deepest condolences to Kulyk’s family, colleagues, and all journalists risking their lives in Ukraine.
