Mexico: WPF Demands Immediate Protection for Victoria Monserrat García After Shooting
December 1, 2024 - Mexico, Montemorelos
Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the shooting of journalist Victoria Monserrat García in Montemorelos. Her truck was riddled with bullets, leaving her wounded after she was attacked by unknown assailants on December 1, 2024.
The reporter for Marmat Noticias, suffered a gunshot wound to her left arm. Despite her injuries, she drove herself to a police station for help. Thankfully, she is now reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.
This violence is a grim reminder of the dangers journalists face in Mexico, the deadliest country in the world for press workers. The silence from authorities—particularly the Nuevo León Prosecutor’s Office—is unacceptable.
We demand justice for Victoria, wish her a swift recovery, and call for her immediate protection. Violence and impunity against journalists in the country must end.
