Mexico: Azucena Uresti and Colleague Targeted by Sinaloa Governor Over Crime Reporting
October 14, 2024 - Mexico, Sinaloa
Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha is blaming journalists Azucena Uresti and Luis Chaparro for any harm that may come to him or his family due to their reporting on the rising violence in Culiacán and its alleged links to organized crime.
Journalists should not be scapegoats for exposing the truth. This harmful rhetoric from the governor puts reporters at even greater risk in an already dangerous environment for the press.
Women Press Freedom demands that the governor focus on combating the wave of violence in Culiacán, instead of trying to hold journalists responsible for safety concerns.
