Kyrgyzstan: WPF Demands Release of Temirov Live Journalists Facing 6 Years in Prison for Exposing Corruption
September 26, 2024 - Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek
Prosecutor seeks 6 years for 11 Temirov Live journalists, including Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy and Aike Beyshekeeva, in pretrial detention since January for exposing corruption among top officials.
This week, Beyshekeeva received the Cena Gratias Tibi award from non-profit People in Need for her bravery in defending human rights.
This attack on independent media is politically motivated. Journalism is not a crime, and we must not allow this injustice to stand.
Women Press Freedom demands the release of all journalists, dropping of fabricated charges, and an end to the government's crackdown on press freedom.
